“Paradise is what vacationers seek,
and it’s more than a fine beach, a quite inn, a good local
restaurant, it’s also the solitude to enjoy them. Impossible?
It’s closer than you think. There are more than a dozen
such islands scattered from one end of the Antilles to the other,
but I recently discovered three in particular that I thought
were worth exploring in depth. The first was Culebra, off the
eastern tip of Puerto Rico. The common agreement seems to be
that the best is Playa Flamenco, a moonlike crescent not far
from where I was staying in a hillside lodging whose most charming
features are its sunset views and that the water comes out of
only one side of the faucet. The most comfortable digs are at
Club Seabourne, overlooking the main harbor."
